What is a Dissertation?

A dissertation is a product of your learning and understanding from the academic world. It highlights your skill as a student and researcher. Title Page	This page is placed at the beginning of the research which states title and the names of the author and publisher.
Table of Contents	This is a list of all the chapters, section titles or brief descriptions with their commencing page numbers found on a page before the start of the dissertation.
List of Tables (If Any)	If there are any tables, diagrams, drawing, graphs, charts, maps, photographs or other types of illustration in the thesis or dissertation, then it is presented on this page before the commencement of the chapters.
List of Abbreviations (If Any)	It is the list of abbreviations which is a shortened form of word or phrase placed in an alphabetical order before the work.
Introduction	This is the first chapter of your dissertation which introduces the topic or research statement. It lays the foundation of your research and states the background, problem, proposed solution and significance of the study.
Literature Review	This chapter emphasizes and summarizes the existing studies available which are related to your study. It is similar in form and length to a long essay which studies the process in which the research topic has been chosen and the reason on why it is significant to your work.
Methodology	This chapter depicts the theories, methods, and sources that can be utilized for the study. The researcher then related the methods to the particular question and states the strengths and weaknesses of that approach as a tool for generating knowledge.
Analysis	This chapter describes and presents the data, evidence or case study in the research. The idea has been extracted from earlier chapters and has either proven or disproven the hypothesis in this chapter. This particular section depends on the kind of findings you are presenting and the identifications you are making.
Discussion	This section is part of the chapter in which the findings and analysis are illustrated. It brings together the arguments of the study and is seen as a three-way conversation between the literature, methodology, and findings.
Conclusions and Recommendations	This chapter creates deductions and inferences based on the findings. It also states certain recommendations for future studies. The researcher must not present new ideas in this section but reflect on previous sections. He or she should identify ways in which others can take the work forward or conduct future research in an organized manner.
Bibliography	This part of the research lists of all the books, journal articles, websites, newspapers and other sources utilized for the research.
Appendices	This section includes the questionnaires, interview transcripts, pilot reports, detailed tables and other materials used in the chapters of the study.
